After I was appointed Fiscal Officer in September 2018, I was advised to obtain a “clean slate” by having the Auditor of State (AOS) conduct a special financial audit. It was “special” because it would cover only one year, 2018 (the normal audit schedule is biennially). The AOS determined it would be best if it was conducted by their own audit staff rather than using a third-party auditing firm (the usual practice in the biennial audits). Our township was 4 months behind in bank reconciliations at the time of my appointment, so we had to get caught up before the auditors could start the audit.
The AOS staff was here gathering the information they needed from February until April of this year. Due to some unavoidable delays within the AOS it was not possible for them complete the 2018 Audit Report as soon as they had expected. When it was completed, the release of the Audit Report was further delayed because of the proximity to the election. It has been released today and is available on the AOS website: www.ohioauditor.gov. Look for “Search Audits.”
The 2018 Audit will also be available on our township website: www.orangetwp.org. Go to “Government” at the very top of the page. Then, go to “Fiscal Office.” You should see a link to the 2018 Audit.
